Who is Jesus?

Discover the Man, the Message, and the Hope He Offers

A Real Person
Jesus was not a myth or a legend—he was a real man who walked this earth over 2,000 years ago in a small town, growing up in a hardworking family. Historians, even those who don’t share the Christian faith, agree that he truly lived and that he truly died, but the impact of his life goes far beyond a simple historical fact. Some people in his day saw him as a wise teacher or a prophet, while others sensed there was something different about him—something special. (Matthew 22:22)

An Extraordinary Man
People couldn’t help but be amazed by what Jesus said and did. He spoke with a kind of wisdom and calm confidence that caught everyone off guard, as if he saw deeper into life than anyone else around him. On top of that, he did things no one could easily explain: he healed the sick, calmed dangerous storms, turned water into wine at a wedding, and even brought a man who had died back to life. Naturally, all of this made people ask a huge question: was he really who he claimed to be?
(Mark 6:2; Matthew 8:24–27; 9:6–7; John 2:1–11; 11:38–44)

More Than a Man
Jesus didn’t just act like a wise teacher; he spoke about himself in ways that pointed to something far greater. He used the phrase “I Am,” a name that, in his culture, was understood to belong to God himself. He also called himself “the Son of God,” describing a unique, close, and equal relationship with God. Claims like that don’t sit in the middle—they either make his message incredibly powerful or deeply offensive, which is exactly why people still wrestle with what he said about himself.
(John 8:48–58; Isaiah 9:6–7; John 5:18)

One of Us
At the same time, Jesus was not cold, distant, or unreachable. He knew what it was like to be hungry, exhausted, heartbroken, and moved with compassion. He showed, in real relationships and real moments, what genuine love and kindness look like in action. Instead of leaving people to carry the weight of their own wrongs, he chose to take that weight on himself, taking the punishment people deserved. He went to the cross and died because his love ran that deep. Yet the story did not end at his death. Three days later, his friends discovered that his tomb was empty, and they heard the stunning news: he was alive again.  (Matthew 15:32; Mark 6:34; John 11:33–36; Romans 5:18; John 3:16; Mark 16:5–6)

Alive Again
The claim that Jesus rose from the dead sits at the very center of the Christian faith. If it happened, it changes everything; if it didn’t, then nothing he said really holds. His followers witnessed that his resurrection was real, and that conviction completely transformed them. They went from hiding in fear to boldly telling anyone who would listen that Jesus was alive. To them, his rising from the dead wasn’t just a nice ending to the story—it was proof that he truly was who he said he was.
(1 Corinthians 15:14–19)

Who Do You Think He Is?
You might still feel unsure about what to make of Jesus, and that’s an honest place to be. What matters is not pushing the question aside just because it feels big or uncomfortable. Take time to think, to ask your questions, and to explore the answers—this is a question worth wrestling with.

At one point, Jesus asked His own disciples a similar question: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter the Apostle answered, “You are the Anointed One, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15–16).

People have been wrestling with that question ever since. And if you already believe that Jesus really is who He claimed to be, that opens the door to a new beginning: you can turn away from what you know is wrong and trust that His love and forgiveness are real, personal, and available to you.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
